— Artist profile

Ania Bas

Ania Bas is an artist who enjoys blurring the edges of what art is and what it can be.  She produces art as photography, for mobile phones, in video, mixed media, text, body, site specific performance and temporary art in public spaces.
She develops work with companies and organisations that is project based and collaborative.  The work is about process and participation as well as the end product.  Employee engagement and tailoring the project specific to business objectives is central to her practice.

An example of her work, and seen in the images displayed here, is 'A day in a Role - Residency with Vestas Blades, the Isle of Wight'.  As part of the placement, Ania decided that for one day she would do the work of somebody else.  She was a cleaner, a shop floor worker, a secretary, a chef, a manager, a security lady - she did 13 different jobs in total.  13 day long performances. At the end of the project she offered a residency for Vestas employees - to be an artist for a day and do her 'job'. Two people applied and one got the residency.

The project was supported by Arts Council England in partnership with Arts & Business South East, as part of the Interact scheme, which offers artists the opportunity to develop their practice in an innovative industry context.
