In 2001 Holiday relocated from Portland, Oregon, US to London and then later to Birmingham. Since leaving the States he has focused primarily on painting in oil, printmaking and sculpture. His paintings vary between loosely painted trompe l’oeils, stylized portraiture, and graffiti-inspired cartoonish nightmares. The subjects and themes that he finds most intriguing are those that involve the inevitable decaying of life and physical matter as a poetic tragedy of fate and, conversely, the absurd banalities of human existence. Using art history, world events, and his own experience with disease as reference points, he seeks to illustrate his relationship to these themes as both observer and participant.
