Kate Pemberton
An artist with an international reputation for electronic and textile-based contemporary art, Kate Pemberton has exhibited in Japan, Canada, Europe and the US. Her work addresses the cultural effects that technology has on society, by examining the influence of the machine and of digital technologies. Work ranges from interactive electronic installations, computer animations, multiples and collaborative projects to textile handcrafted canvas-based pieces. Pattern-making and design are meeting points of the handcrafted and the digital in these pieces. The relationship between function and decoration, the industrially-manufactured and handmade and tradition and progress are also pursued. The writer Matt Price has said of Kate’s work, “It is simple yet clever work, full of reversals of meaning.”
