Ravi Deepres

Ravi Deepres has established an international reputation for his film, photographic and digital media work. Much of his gallery and installation artwork is motivated by themes of individual, group, national and patriotic identity. It has strong conceptual narratives and is created through photographic, film/video and digital mediums, some of which are exhibited on large stretched canvases. His most recent gallery show 'Patriots' has received excellent reviews most notably in The Guardian newspaper.  This particular body of work explores nationalism and patriotism and focuses on individual and group identity within and around football arenas.  Another series of work by the artist focusses on film and photographic collaborations with globally-renowned choreographers.  These have been seen at dance, music and opera venues throughout the world, including the Edinburgh Festival, Japan, Europe and the US.  Other large-scale choreographic film/photographic pieces have been commissioned by Sadler's Wells, The Royal Opera House, Paris Opera House and La Scala.  His film and photographic work has been seen in  shows across the UK including Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, Cornerhouse, Manchester, The Lowry, Salford, Rencontres d'Arles and a solo show at Newcastle's Hatton Gallery.  Film commissions and installations include those for Channel 4, BBC1, Mute Records, Capture4 Season and the Institute of Contemporary Art.
