Chris has been visiting New Orleans over the last few years. The 9th Ward Scars series was made on his most recent trip (Feb 2007). Using a Polaroid camera Chris captures the graffiti sprayed on homes by the US National Guard post hurricane Katrina. The markings represent the date, the crew who checked and if anyone was found dead in the building. These marks interested Chris as they’re still in place nearly two years on from Katrina despite the fact these homes are occupied by people rebuilding their lives. They seem to act as a battle scar or reminder of the trauma the city has experienced. The scars fade as the city continues to heal itself from the effects of Katrina. All profits made on this print will go towards New Orleans based charities helping local communities.
