Kaons are subatomic particles that are part of a family called stable K mesons. As with many expressions in particle physics stability is relative as the Kaon has a life of no more than 50 billionths of a second before it decays into other particles such as leptons and pions. Koi on the other hand are stable in the more usual sense of the word, they can have a lifespan of over 150 years.
