Having already purchased work through Visual by David Remes, John Garghan, Mike Hallett and Stephen Brockerton, Aston Business School has now installed a large scale glass commission by Eryka Isaak. The work was commissioned by Executive Dean Michael West specifically for the main entrance.
The new work, called ‘Electron Stream’, is a suspended glass sculpture covering an area of about eight square metres. It’s made up of separately hanging components, all of which have been made from fused and slumped glass, containing copper foils, powder and fine wires.
Eryka explains, “The sculpture is derived from the concept of the school being a place of driven learning, focussed energy from a diversity of thought and a real goal to succeed through leadership and teamwork.”
As well as the main commission, Eryka has also made a series of beautiful glass slabs for the main entrance, each containing one of six key words: leadership, innovation, ethics, diversity, performance and strategy.
Professor Michael West, Executive Dean of Aston Business School, said: "Aston Business School is profiting in many ways through our association with Arts & Business. Eryka's work is a powerful manifestation of this and the importance of creativity, excellence and inspiration in all areas of business is exemplified by her work.
Moreover, Arts & Business is enabling us to communicate these values to students, staff, visitors and corporate partners through our subscription to Visual, through the involvement of artists in our work with students and through the stunning artwork that now graces the entrance to our building."
Gavin Buckley, Director of Arts & Business, commented, “Aston Business School is a world-class organisation and we are delighted to be working in partnership with them. The art that has been commissioned through Visual not only looks fantastic, but also serves to energise the space and inspire all those who work and learn there.”
‘Electron Stream’ will be unveiled at Aston Business School on Monday 14 April at a ceremony to mark the 60th anniversary of Aston Business School.
