Fabrica is presenting 77 Million Paintings in collaboration with Brian Eno in his role as this year's Guest Artistic
Director of Brighton Festival 2010.
77 Million Paintings by Brian Eno is a painting installation in light that is slowly and continuously changing within a composition of high definition video screens.
Translucent and richly coloured abstract images, mainly hand drawn on 35mm slides, form component elements that are almost imperceptibly overlaid, reconfigured and transformed as each moment passes. Reminiscent in form and scale to a stained glass window or mosaic design, 77 Million Paintings creates an architectural focus for reflection and orientation in both a physical and symbolic sense.
Stig Evans is involved with 77 Million Paintings as the artist in residence. During May he will be exploring colour and our relationship with it, inviting visitors to feed into and respond to his research, both online and in discussion with him at the gallery.
Stig Evans is a painter and conservator fascinated by colour, how we perceive it, respond to it and represent it, and by its historical and chemical provenance.
Find out more about his lines of enquiry from the information area in the gallery or meet him in person for an informal chat about his residency at the following times: Sat 1 May 1-2pm, Thurs 13 May 7-8pm, Sat 22 May 1-2pm.
